DESCRIPTION

My designs are originated from the strong bond with my Ethiopian origins.
I have often focused on the cultural and traditional practices of the people of the Omo Valley.
Mursi and Suri carpets take inspiration from the practice of scarification belonging to the culture of various Ethiopian tribes, and not only.

In the beginning the practice of scarification was considered a sign of social qualification,
or of belonging to a certain tribe, while today it persists in the African tradition with a purely aesthetic and cultural value.

To create my rugs, I chose to use the shapes and designs that scars form on the skin; the latter differ from each other with respect to the meaning given to them.
My goal is to bring traditions that are outside of Western culture into Italian Design; in this case I decided to use wool to give a hard practice like scarification the softness of a material used in our daily lives.
